Think Darksiders II two years after launch. Not new games mind, and not the very best games. You paid your money every month in order to access online multiplayer features but, just as importantly (at least for me at the time), you also got one or more free games that meant the subscription paid for itself.
Live Gold has been around for two decades, and for most of that time it was great.
In a move that’s been a long time coming, Xbox announced this week it is retiring its ancient Live Gold subscription, and in its place will be an entry level Game Pass tier that offers online multiplayer and a small library of “more than 25” included games.
